Preparation for the Y2K Problem 1. Analysis and Impact Evaluation The company has analyzed the problem on two parts;Hardware and Software. 1.1 Hardware consists of 1. Mini Computer RISC6000 2. PC (Included Server and Workstation) 3. Time Attendance 1.2 Software consists of program as follows: 1. Operating system and Application on RISC6000 2. Network operating system - Novell Netware 4.0 3. PC operating system consists of Dos 6.2, Windows95, WindowsNT 3.51 and WindowsNT 4.0 4. Application on PC consists of Lotus Notes, Salary program, Time Attendance program, Time record program and Bill program. 2. Impact on business operation It may be impact business operation as follows: 2.1 Impact on computer system and internal management 1. Impact from hardware error 1.1 Impact on Mini Computer RISC6000 No impact because RISC 6000 has already implemented. 1.2 Impact on Personal Computer After testing, the company has found some PC faced Y2K problem. Now it is in testing process and data collection. 1.3 Impact on Time Attendance It may not run on year 2000 and now in coordinating process with the system vendors. 2. Impact from software error 2.1 Impact on Operating system and Application on RISC6000 Operating system and Application on RISC6000 problem have already implemented by Bara Advance Infotech Co.,Ltd. and Compute Power Co.,Ltd. 2.2 Impact on Network operating system - Novell Netware 4.0 Being implemented by Information Technology Department 2.3 Impact on PC operating system According to the test result, No Y2K problem. 2.4 Impact on Application on PC Some application may be effected such as Salary program, Time Attendance program, Time record program and Bill program and now in coordinating process with vendors to replace or upgrade the applications. 2.2 Impact on general operation business No effect 2.3 Impact from external environment No effect . The company normally contact with outsiders by using hardcopy. 3. Action Plan 3.1 Direction and Implementation Plan Some PC has faced Y2K problem. Now it is in testing process and data collection.
